Dolores de la LUChA

This sketch pays homage to Dolores Huerta, a revered figure in labor and civil rights activism. As the co-founder of the United Farm Workers labor union alongside César Chávez in the 1960s, Huerta became a leading advocate for the rights of workers, women, and immigrants. Her dedication to ethnic diversity and equality earned her accolades, including the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights in 1998 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.

This particular piece was crafted by Gómez in tribute to Dolores Huerta and the United Farm Workers. In portraying Huerta's image, Gómez hoped to highlight the scarcity of iconic representations of women by women. Gómez aimed to elevate Huerta's status as an equal to César Chávez.
